I have always had a kind of interest in Achilles, from the Illiad. Since about eighth grade. I couldn't tell you why or how, I'm sure there is a psychological reason behind it. Especially since I consider myself as more of a Patroclus than an Achilles. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Greek mythology, and the illiad a normal amount but I LOVE Achilles. So I made an entire page for him.

• The Song of Achilles – This is probably the most well known media you've heard of. While I do like it – It's very romantic, very sad, very patrochilles. I do have to say it's not the most accurate or my most favourite. I don't like the way it characterises Patroclus or how it dismisses Achilles's relationship with Deidamia and Briseis (heavy on how it entirely throws away his relationship with Briseis.) I also didn't like how they spun the fact that Achilles assaulted Deidamia, into her assaulting him. It gives the implication that Achilles and Patroclus were perfectly monogamous. Which, especially during wartime, they were not. They both slept with various women and possibly other men, (including each other). But as a standalone read, it's pretty good.

• Age of Bronze – I actually really enjoy this comic. It is about the Trojan War as a whole, but still has quite a lot of Achilles. I like that they keep his bisexuality and how he shows interest in both Deidamia and Patroclus. They also portray him as very boyish and a tad naïve which I do believe is true. Of course he matures over time but for a fair portion of the comic, he is young and just jumps whenever the idea of glory is mentioned. The comic isn't complete yet and has barely scratched the surface of the war, only just the starting years (Briseis hasn't even been taken yet). The other non-Achilles aspects of the comic are also quite good. It does get dark, and makes no effort to sugarcoat the severity of the war. But it has some funny moments as well.

• Troy 24 – The only one I couldn't find a free copy for, probably because of how unknown it is. This was my first introduction to Achilles properly. In eighth grade, we did this book for English and I was absolutely taken by Achilles. I played Achilles every time we had to act it out. To give a brief explanation, it was taking the last four (?) nights of the Iliad (right before Patroclus dies) and presents it through a 24/7 news channel with ancient Greek news anchors and all. Of course, it also erases Achilles's bisexuality and enforces more monogamy onto him. I wish I could tell you more but it's been like 4 years since I last read it.

• Justvea18 – This one artist on tumblr is my EVERYTHING. Single handedly keeping the obsession alive. I love her Achilles and even her Patroclus. I love specifically the way she portrays Achilles's rage and grief as something almost inhumane. I would've liked if Achilles was more strawberry blond but at the same time, it's not my art to be requesting things like that. And I'll gladly eat up anything she posts.

• The Achilleid – This is where all the Skyros and time with Chiron stuff comes from. Now. It is a Roman poem and I usually don't like Roman interpretations. But I do NEED to read this.

• The Silence of the Girls – I've heard really good things about it, especially that it's a mind clean up after Song of Achilles. Like two sides of the same coin. Been working on getting down a copy.

• The War That Killed Achilles – Also heard really good things and I'm really curious as to how it is.

Everything from this point forward will be character analysis that I'll add to a little by little

Achilles fights for two reasons. Either it's for glory. For his name. This is why he went to fight in the war. He was aware of the prophecy that if he fights in the war, if he kills hector, he will die young but his name will be in legends. And he was willing to take it. When he is fighting for glory, he is fighting because he enjoys it, he enjoys being the greatest of the Greeks. If not, he is fighting for personal offense. Achilles is very shallow, and sees his close ones as objects that he owns. He is a prince after all. Briseis, the slave girl, is his property and he becomes petty when she is 'stolen' by Agamemnon. Patroclus is his property, and he is angry when Hector 'breaks ' him. Of course there's more nuance to how he sees people, but that explains his rag

The way people treat Patroclus does upset me a little. In a lot of reinterpretations, he's made out to be helpless and dependent on Achilles. When in the Iliad, he is described as equal to Ares, with the highest kill count He is also, a lot more Achilles's attendant, or as he's described, Achilles's therapon. While they are very close friends, implied since childhood, it's very obvious that Achilles is much higher rank Also, Achilles is a whiny bitch who threw a temper tantrum when his girlfriend got taken away and threw a larger tantrum when his boyfriend died. And I love him for it
